The excitement surrounding our new line of board games targeted to families continues with Karuba's nomination for the prestigious Spiel des Jahres award for 2016!
Karuba is a simple to learn, yet highly addictive tile-laying race game where players start with identical boards. At the start of the game, one player is designated to draw and call (bingo-style) the tiles to be placed. Players race to get their explorers to the matching temples first to earn points. During their journey, they can collect additional points by collecting crystals and gold nuggets off the paths they create. Karuba was designed and written by Rudiger Dorn - winner of a Kennerspiel des Jahres (Children's Game of the Year) in 2014 and was nominated for a Spiel des Jahres in 2012. Illustrated by Claus Stephan winner of a Spiesl des Jahres in 2008 and Graf Ludo game designer award in 2009.
Spiel des Jahres (German for Game of the Year) was created in 1978 to recognize quality and excellence in game design. The prestige and importance of the Spiel des Jahres, not just in Germany but around the globe is why the small country of Germany is regarded by most in the game industry as the worldwide leader in board game design.Since 1989, when the separate award for Children's Games was introduced, many HABA games have been nominated, with 7 HABA games winning the top honors:
